Put Tumeric in Everything You Cook in 2024! Tumeric: The Golden Spice

Ground tumeric

Asia had it right first! Starting in Asia, tumeric has been used in daily practices for centuries! Known for its distinctive color and flavor, turmeric is not just a delightful spice but also a powerhouse of health benefits. In recent years, it has gained popularity in kitchens worldwide, and for good reason. 99% of all my dishes I make for my family have a dash of tumeric and a dash of ginger in them!

1. Anti-inflammatory Properties
One of the most notable benefits of turmeric is its potent anti-inflammatory properties, primarily due to curcumin, its active compound. Chronic inflammation is linked to numerous health issues, and incorporating turmeric into your diet can help mitigate this.

2. Boosts Antioxidant Capacity
Turmeric is rich in antioxidants, which protect your body from free radicals, known to cause oxidative stress and damage to cells. Antioxidants also enhance the immune system, making turmeric a great addition to your diet for overall health.

3. Enhances Brain Function
Curcumin in turmeric has been linked to improved brain function. It can increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a type of growth hormone that functions in your brain, which may be effective in delaying or even reversing many brain diseases and age-related decreases in brain function.

4. Lowers Risk of Heart Disease
Turmeric can improve the function of the endothelium, the lining of your blood vessels, which is essential for heart health. Endothelial dysfunction is a significant driver of heart disease, as it involves an inability to regulate blood pressure, blood clotting, and various other factors.

5. Can Help Prevent Cancer
Research has shown that curcumin can affect cancer growth, development, and spread at the molecular level. Studies have also indicated that it can reduce angiogenesis (growth of new blood vessels in tumors) and metastasis (spread of cancer), as well as contribute to the death of cancerous cells.

6. May Alleviate Arthritis Symptoms
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric can help with arthritis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the joints. Many studies show that people with arthritis who consume turmeric can experience significant improvements in symptoms.

7. Boosts Skin Health
Turmeric has been used as a skincare ingredient for centuries. Its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties can help to treat a range of skin conditions, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

8. Aids Digestion
Turmeric stimulates the gallbladder to produce bile, making the digestive system more efficient. It is also beneficial in reducing symptoms of bloating and gas.

9. Delightful Flavor and Color
Beyond its health benefits, turmeric adds a unique earthy flavor and a beautiful golden color to dishes. It’s widely used in curries, but you can also add it to soups, rice, smoothies, and even teas.

There are many ways I use tumeric but my top two are this: adding a dash to all my meals while cooking, and my honey spice mixture!

Honey and Spice and everything nice!

When you combine these ingredients you are creating a concoction that helps your body’s overall health! Skin, gut, brain, heart, muscles, from your head to your toes people!

  • Tumeric
  • Black pepper (to activate the tumeric)
  • Cinnamon
  • Garlic powder
  • Ground Ginger
  • Honey

Mix all the ingredients, let sit for at least 3 hours so the spices can blend and it’s not so harsh! I take 4 to 5 spoonfuls a day when I’m sick. When I’m not sick I take a couple spoonfuls throughout my week, or simply once a day.

Another way to intake tumeric is by taking the viral tumeric shot! Mix these ingredients with coconut water, water, or juice, and enjoy!
